MYANMAR DISCOVERY

Myanmar Discovery - Travelling through spectacular landscapes, this tour reveals the innate beauty of Myanmar’s landscapes and its people. You will uncover Myanmar’s mystique aura with an in-depth excursion into the country’s cultural and natural wonders.

DAY 1: YANGON ARRIVAL (-/-/-)

Mingalabar! Upon arrival, a driver and tour guide of Myanmar Travel will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Yangon city center.

DAY 2 YANGON – KYAIKTIYO (B/-/-)

After breakfast in your hotel, our private car and driver will pick you and take you a drive to Kyaikhtiyo (about 4 hour driving). When we arrive in base camp of Kyaikhtiyo mountain,we first take an open truck and then enjoy the trekking to Golden Rock, it will take about 1 hour up the hill to enjoy the sunset at the Golden Rock. The famous ‘Golden Rock’ is a sacred, massive gold-leafed boulder delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff near the top of Mt. Kyaikhtiyo and it is one of the most revered Buddhist shrines.

Note: The road up hill is very steep, we share the truck with local to get almost to the top of this mountains for an hour. It will be an adventure plus the 45 minutes trekking up hill.
The private truck is available but rather expensive, please ask our travel consultant if you really need it.

DAY 3: KYAIKHTIYO – BAGO – YANGON (B/-/-)

After breakfast, start trekking down and return to the base-camp by open truck and head in the direction of Yangon for 110km to Bago, an ancient capital dating back to the 6th century. Sightseeing in Bago includes the beautiful fifty-five-meter-long reclining Buddha called Shwethalyaung and the Mon style Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most venerated in Myanmar. Its spire stands 114m high and is taller even than the Shwedagon Pagoda. Also visit the old Palace of Kambozathadi and the huge four sitting Buddhas. Transfer back to Yangon.

    • Bago center – Shwethalyaung: 5miles → 6 minutes driving transfer

DAY 4: YANGON – FLY TO BAGAN – SIGHTSEEING (B/-/-)

Today, take a morning flight to Bagan. Bagan is Myanmar’s archaeological wonderland, where over 2,000 ancient temples blossom from the countryside.

Upon arrival, start your tour from the bustling Nyaung U Market in Old Bagan then explore the beautiful, gold leaf Shwezigon Pagoda and learn about Burmese Buddhist traditions. Continue your tour with a visit to Ananda Temple, stopping along the way on the Bagan plains to admire some of the surrounding temples.  

In the afternoon, enjoy an exotic horse cart ride to one of the biggest temples in Bagan: Nan Paya Pagoda and many other interesting sites nearby. The highlight of today is the panoramic sunset view from pagodas.

  • Bagan center – Nyaung U market: 8 miles → 5 minutes driving transfer
  • Nyaung U market – Shwezigon Pagoda: 3 miles → 10 minutes driving transfer
  • Bagan center – Nan Paya Pagoda: 5 miles → 5 minutes driving transfer

DAY 5: BAGAN – SALAY – BAGAN (B/-/-)

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive Southward, parallel to the Irrawaddy River, en route to Salay. After one hour we make a stop in Chauk which has a colorful morning market to explore. Few tourists visit this market and it is a great place for local interaction and photos.
Continue half an hour drive to Sale (Sa-lay), a sleepy town where various colonial buildings, monasteries and pagodas can be seen.

Amongst, we will visit Yoke-Sone-Kyaung Monastery which is a cultural heritage site in Salay, situated on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. It is famous for its beautiful artistic woodcarvings.

In the afternoon, return Bagan for a tour of a local lacquer ware workshop and learn how this traditional piece of art is made. Enjoy a short cruise along the Irrawaddy River at sunset.

  • Bagan – Chauk: 20 miles → 50 minutes driving transfer
  • Chauk – Salay: 13 miles → 30 minutes driving transfer

DAY 6: BAGAN – MANDALAY – CITY TOUR (B/-/-)

This morning, travel to Mandalay by car. It takes around 4.5 hours through the highway.
In the afternoon, visit Mandalay Palace, Shwenandaw Monastery – noted for its exquisite wood carvings, gold leaf beating workshop, Kuthodaw Pagoda – known as the world biggest book and finish the tour by visiting Mandalay Hill to watch the sun-set and the panoramic view of the city.

DAY 7: MANDALAY – AMARAPURA – SAGAING (B/-/-)

Upon arrival, drive to Amarapura. Being famous for Mahagandaryone Monastery, Amarapura is the best place to experience the monk life in Mandalay. Every day at mid-morning, monks and novices line up silently to receive their daily offering of alms and food from faithful Buddhists.

Next, head to Sagaing, discover the monk education, visit Budda cave, Uminthonze pagoda and Sunooponnyashin pagoda. Behold the panoramic view of Mandalay.
We then cross the river by ferry to Inwa (Ava), situated on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Once a royal capital, Inwa is now a quiet rural oasis. Enjoy a horse cart ride around the peaceful countryside, visiting Bagaya Kyaung, a beautiful teak wood monastery, Maha Aungmyay Bonzan Kyaung, and Nan Myint tower.

End of the day, walk over Ubein Wooden Bridge, the longest teakwood of its type to Mahamuni Image – a bronze Buddha image castled during the lifetime of Buddha himself. Enjoy great sunset view here.

  • Amarapura – Sagaing: 6 miles → 25 minutes driving transfer

DAY 8:  MANDALAY – HEHO – PINDAYA – INLE LAKE (B/-/-)

Take a morning flight to Heho today.  Upon arrival, take a nice drive to Pindaya through the picturesque countryside of the Shan State. Visit Pindaya’s limestone cave with its maze of chambers displaying more than 8,000 Buddha statues and local handicraft workshops producing Shan paper made from mulberry bark. They also make traditional umbrellas made from the same paper that are used by monks all around the country.
In late afternoon, head to Nyaung Shwe town where you take a boat to your hotel

  • Heho Airport – Pindaya cave: 22 miles → 60 minutes driving transfer
  • Pindaya cave – Inle Lake: 55 miles → 2 hours driving transfer

DAY 9: INLE LAKE – INDEIN – INLE LAKE (B/-/-)

This morning, you will visit the “Five Day Market” which is held each day in a different village surrounding the lake. This is definitely a fascinating place to enjoy the scene of local tribes in their colorful clothes and exotic market atmosphere.

Then, take a sightseeing tour to Phaungdawoo Pagoda, famed for its richly gilded five small Buddha images, also is believed the holiest in Inle Lake. Our next visit is Ngaphechaung. As you travel further to Nam Pan village the cotton and lotus weaving factory and cigar-making houses will impress you with a sense of traditional Intha life.
After that, the boat will take you to beautiful temple of Indein, located on the hill overlooking the lake. It will be definitely relaxing to walk along the corridor and enjoy the giant columns which have been left to the nature for centuries.

DAY 10: INLE LAKE – NGAPALI BEACH (B/-/-)

After breakfast, you will catch a flight from Heho to Thandwe. It is time to immerse in the pristine water of Ngapali Beach and the beautiful green coconut groves. It’s your time to relax and enjoy.

DAY 11 – 12: NGAPALI BEACH (B/-/-)

Today you are free to visit Treasure Island or relax on the sandy beach of Ngapali.

DAY 13: NGAPALI BEACH – YANGON (B/-/-)

After breakfast, return to Yangon. Spend the rest of day exploring Yangon and its highlights from Sule Pagoda, in the heart of Yangon city; Chaukhtayi Pagoda then enjoy shopping time at the bustling Scott Market (Closes on Monday and some specific holidays). Save the best for last, discover the most outstanding pagoda in Yangon: Shwedagon Pagoda, known as the “Golden Pagoda”, a real must see while you are in Myanmar.
The highlight for this evening is a dinner in Karaweik Palace overlooking to the Royal Lake and Shwedagon Tower. You will be served a dinner of fine Burmese food followed by an amazing cultural show.
