Discover the best of Central Thailand on a 5-day, 4-night journey through Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, and Ayutthaya. Begin in Bangkok with a scenic long-tail boat excursion along the Chao Phraya River and visits to iconic sites such as Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, and the Jim Thompson House. Dive into local life at the Maeklong Railway Market and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market before exploring the poignant history of Kanchanaburi at the Jeath War Museum, the Death Railway, and the legendary Kwai Bridge. Continue to the ancient capital of Ayutthaya, where majestic temple ruins and grand Buddha statues await. Conclude the trip with a visit to the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, showcasing a unique blend of European and Asian architecture. This itinerary offers a harmonious mix of cultural heritage, historical depth, and authentic local experiences.

DAY 1: BANGKOK ARRIVAL – CHAO PHRAYA BOAT EXCURSION (-/-/-)

Welcome to Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand where rich history meets modern life. Upon arrival at Bangkok airport, you are greeted and transferred to the hotel for check in and refreshment.

Afternoon we take boarding on a long tail boat for an excursion along the Chao Phraya River and many bustling interior canals that offer fantastic views of local life close by. Along the way, we stop at Wat Arun, the temple of the Aube. The rest of the day would be at your own pleasure.

  • Bangkok Airport – Bangkok Central: 22 miles -> 1 hours driving transfer
  • Bangkok Central – Chao Phraya River: 3 miles -> 15 minutes driving transfer

DAY 2: BANGKOK CITY (B/-/-)

 After breakfast, we visit the Grand Royal Palace dedicated to the ceremony of the royal family of Thailand. In the same compound is the magnificent Wat Phra Kaew which is known for the Statue of the Emerald Buddha. After visiting this complex, we continue to visit Wat Pho, a giant house of the lying Buddha.

 

Afternoon transfer to the Jim Thompson house, in the heart of Bangkok’s city center: start by learning the story of the American businessman and traveler, who made it his life’s work to bring Thai silks to the world’s fashion houses, and then explore his remarkable home. This is one of the best places in Bangkok to see traditional Thai teak homes, as Thompson assembled his using historic houses shipped to Bangkok from around the country. Find out what is known – and what remains a mystery – about Thompson’s 1967 disappearance in the Malaysian jungle, then explore the collection of art that he assembled during 25 years in Thailand.  

Return to the hotel and free time for relaxation.

DAY 3: BANGKOK – MEAKLONG RAILWAY MARKET – DAMNOEN SADUAK FLOATING MARKET – KANCHANABURI (B/-/-)

Early in the morning, we drive southwest of Bangkok, visit the Maeklong railway market, take photo, and enjoy the local snack in the market before driving to Damnoen Saduak, a rural floating market. Stop for a motor boat trip along the waterway to the picturesque floating market of Damnoen Saduak.

Afterwards we continue the road to the city of Kanchanaburi.

Upon arrival, visit the World War II memorial including the Jeath War Museum, Cemetery. We will take 30-minutes train to experience and enjoy the beautiful view from train along the river. This is one of Southeast Asia’s historic railways, the remaining part of the “Death Railway”, departing from the provincial capital to the Railway Station from Tonburi (or Namtok).  and transfer then city to visit Kwai bridge.

  • Bangkok Central – Maeklong railway market: 48 miles -> 1,5 hours driving transfer
  • Maeklong railway market – Damnoen Saduak: 12 miles -> 25 minutes driving transfer
  • Damnoen Saduak – Jeath War Museum: 60 miles -> 2 hours driving transfer

DAY 4: KACHANABURI – AYUTTHAYA (B/-/-)

 In the morning, we will depart to Ayutthaya, it takes about more than hour to reach the former Thai capital. Witness the glory of the ancient capital through its temple and palace ruins. First you will visit Wat Phu Khao Thong, or the “Monastery of the Golden Mount”, which is located just outside Ayutthaya. Then you will proceed to the ancient palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet. You will also visit Viharn Phra Mongkol Bopit, one of the largest bronze Buddha’s in Thailand.

You have lunch by your own.

To round off the day, you will have chance to visit Wat Lokaya Sutha, this temple enshrines a large reclining Buddha image.

Distance:

  • Kanchanaburi – Wat Phu Khao Thong: 98 miles -> 2,5 hours driving transfer
  • Wat Phu Khao Thong – Wat Phra Si Sanphet: 4 miles -> 15 minute driving transfer

DAY 5: AYUTTHAYA – BANG PA IN PALACE – BANGKOK – DEPARTURE (B/-/-)

Morning we visit will be the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, built during the Ayutthaya era. The palace showcases an eclectic collection of buildings that blend European, Khmer, Thai and Chinese architectural styles. It’s the favorite summer palace of the King.

And transfer back to Bangkok around noon time. The remaining day would be spent at your free time until we transfer you to Bangkok airport for your departure flight.

  • Ayutthaya – Bang Pa – In Summer Palace: 12 miles -> 30 minute driving transfer
  • Bang Pa – In Summer Palace – Bangkok Airport: 49 miles -> 2 hour driving transfer
