DAY 1: Arrival in Luang Prabang (NONE)
On arrival at the Luang Prabang airport, you will be met and transferred to check in the hotel. Situated in the centre of northern Laos, Luang Prabang is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its outstanding cultural, historic and architectural values and its harmonious relationship between the natural and built environment.
There is no activities planned for today, so you may stroll around for the first impression of this ancient city.

DAY 2: LUANG PRABANG – CITY TOUR – KUANG SI WATERFALLS (B/-/-)

Wake up as the sun rises, we will prepare to join the most sacred tradition of Laos, the daily morning alms giving, which dates to the 14th century. More than 200 Buddhist monks depart from various temple to gather their daily meal from the faithful residents sitting quietly on the streets. We then visit the temporary morning market near the former Royal Palace which offers a glimpse into daily life, with vendors selling fresh produce, handmade crafts, and textiles. These experiences provide a unique and authentic cultural immersion.
After breakfast, our day begins with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, home to an array of captivating artifacts. Next on our itinerary is the stunning Wat Xiengthong, showcasing the elegant sweep of classical Laotian architecture in its low-slung roofs.
We then journey to the breathtaking Kuang Si Waterfall, where you can indulge in a refreshing swim in the pools or explore the forest trails. Spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure, enjoying the serene beauty of the waterfalls. Optionally, we can also observe Asiatic bears up close at the Bear Rescue Centre during a jungle walk to the waterfall.
Returning to town, we make a brief stop at the Ock Pop Tock Living Craft Center, nestled peacefully by the Mekong River. Here, artisans craft high-quality fabrics using traditional techniques. You’re encouraged to enhance your experience with a complimentary audio guide detailing the center’s significance in Lao culture and history.
As we transfer back to Luang Prabang, we ascend the 329 steps to the summit of Phousi Hill for a breathtaking sunset vista overlooking the city and the shimmering Mekong River below. Our tour concludes with a visit to the renowned Night Market, where you can peruse a delightful array of handmade textiles crafted by local artisans and hilltribe communities.

The boat leaves Luang Prabang at 7:00am for upstream the Mekong to Pakbeng. French Breakfast is served on board.
In the morning, we will stop to visit Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting) and its over two thousand Buddha statues. It is one of the most important Pilgrimage places for lao people. After the visit, our English-speaking guide will organize a small lecture and will explain the different ethnicities here in Laos.
Lao traditional Lunch set is served on board. In the afternoon, relax on board and enjoy the natural sceneries that offers the mekong river.

In the morning, our guide and crew will organize some short activities on board.
Just before lunch, the boat will stop to visit a traditional Kamu village, Ban Kang Lae, a tiny cozy place which host about 60 families. Travelers will learn about rural lifestyle in a very remote area. Our company support regularly the village and offer donations.

Early morning we head out the town to Luang Nam Tha, this road has recently been improved, and is now a very smooth and comfortable drive. We visit hill tribe villages along the road at Muang Phouka and other surrounding area.
Luang Nam Tha, which is located on the banks of the Namtha River, is a land of rugged mountains and beautiful tropical forests and shares its border with China and Myanmar. We arrive in Luang Nam Tha in the afternoon.

DAY 6: LUANG NAMTHA – NAM HA TREKKING (B/L/D)

Meet at 9:00 am for a brief introduction to your group and tour guide. Travel by Tuk Tuk to the morning market for food supplies before starting your trek from Ban Nam Ha. Accompanied by a local guide familiar with the trails and wildlife tracks, trek through cultivated areas for 10 minutes before entering the untouched jungle of Nam Ha NPA. As you hike through dense forests, you may encounter wildlife or observe their tracks.
Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way. Guides will share ancestral knowledge of medicinal plants and edible leaves, demonstrate traditional camp setup, and prepare delicious jungle cuisine using local resources.
After dinner, relax under the stars around a campfire, perfect for engaging conversations.

DAY 7: NAM HA TREKKING (B/L/D)

Wake up early to the sounds of jungle wildlife before breakfast. Trek across hills and along shady ridge-lines adorned with beautiful forests. Descend slightly after lunch to reach a stream, where ample canopy provides shade.
Arrive at the riverside campsite before sunset, with time for a refreshing swim. Learn more about medicinal plants, edible leaves, and traditional Khmu jungle cooking techniques from your guides.

DAY 8: BACK TO LUANG NAMTHA (B/L/-)

Awaken to the chorus of mountain animals around the campsite. After breakfast, prepare belongings for crossing the Nam Ha River and visiting Ban Nalan, an ASEAN Standard of Community Based Tourism awardee.
Explore Khmu lifestyle, culture, and traditions before a forest hike uphill. Enjoy a traditional lunch along the forest path. Descend the mountain slope for an easy two-hour hike to Ban Chalernsouk, where a Tuk Tuk awaits to return you to Luang Namtha.

DAY 9: LUANG NAMTHA – OUDOMXAY – NAMKAT (B/-/-)

Early morning, visit the local market which attracts many ethnic minorities converging from the mountains or the surrounding valley to trade and sell their products.
Then visit the Luang Namtha Stupa, which is located at the top the hill. We then transfer directly to Oudomxay, which is residence to a mixture of 23 ethnic minority groups. We make a few rest stops along the way, which gives you the opportunity to see the ethnic minority groups.
Upon arrival in Oudomxay, we will transfer directly to Namkat Yola Pa Resort, which locates 30Km from Oudomxay center. The resort is famous for its pure natural surround with the thick jungle, and especially the amazing Namkat Waterfalls.
Check in the hotel. After checking in your room, free for the rest of the day at the resort pool, or just relax and enjoy the sound of nature.

DAY 10: NAMKAT EXPERIENCE (B/L/-)

We depart from the resort and cycle upwards to the Namkat Waterfall. You will sense the fresh smell of nature as the road is surrounded by thick forest. The cycling trip towards the waterfall will take about 2 hours. We will park our bikes at the entrance point of the waterfall, and walk towards the waterfall by flying bridges walk.
Picnic lunch will be served at the waterfall. We will spend about 1.5 hour there.
We have ample time to rest after lunch before taking the zip-lining back to the entrance/meeting point where we parked the bikes and cycle back to the resort.

DAY 11: NAMKAT – MUANG LA TREK – MUANG KHUA (B/L/-)

After breakfast, transfer to Muang La. Then departure by 4×4, the only way to climb the steep mountains and reach the most intact and fascinating villages in the region. The itinerary can be more flexible, depending on the season, the guide can check if there are special markets or festivals.
Visit a village of Ikhos in Ban Ano, completely isolated at more than 1000 meters above sea level. This ethnic group is from Tibet and Yunnan and these villagers have seen very few foreigners.
Picnic lunch. In the afternoon, walk about 45 minutes to visit the Hmong village of Ban Taseur. Then transfer to Muang Khua to spend the night.

DAY 12: MUANG KHUA – SAEN LUANG (AKHA VILLAGE) (B/L/D)

Commence your day at 8:00 AM with a departure from your hotel. Utilize the Song Theo Tuk-Tuk for a scenic journey to Huay Yang village, covering approximately 8 KM. Embark on a hiking adventure through rubber plantations and picturesque forests, immersing yourself in the captivating scenery for about an hour. Witness the upland rice fields of Akha Loma along the way. Indulge in a traditional picnic lunch served amid the natural surroundings.
Post-lunch, resume your trek to higher mountains, offering breathtaking landscapes and photo-worthy moments. Reach the village before the evening sunset. While awaiting dinner, take a leisurely stroll around the village, absorbing its rich culture and traditions. Cap off your day with a delightful Akha massage at a local house within the village, marking the beginning of your homestay experience.
The trekking distance covers 9 km, spanning about 6 hours, with a trail difficulty rated at 2-3 out of 5.

In the early morning, witness the Akha people engaging in their daily activities. Following a hearty breakfast at the homestay, embark on a 2.5-hour trek through lush young forests and verdant mountains. Encounter the Khmu rice fields and dwellings crafted from bamboo and rattan leaves along the way. Afterward, indulge in a one-hour trek to a Khmu village, where a delightful lunch awaits.
Post-lunch, continue the trek for an additional hour, reaching a village near a river. Here, take a refreshing 20-minute break, including the option to swim, before catching a boat on the Nam Ou River that will lead you down to Muang Khua.
The trekking distance covers 8 km, translating to approximately 4.5-5 hours of trekking.

DAY 14: MUANG KHUA – MUANG NGOI (B/-/-)

In the morning, we will board on a long-tail boat downstream the Nam Ou River to Muang Ngoi, the lovely village along the lazy Nam Ou River. The scenery along the way is said to be the most beautiful part of the gently Nam Ou River. We may make one or two stops along the way to visit the local villages such as Ban Sop Chem.
On arrival in Muang Ngoi, we visit the historic Tham Kang cave which was used as a shelter during the Indochina War, continue the walk to Ban Na crossing the green rice field (depends on the season). Admire the beautiful landscape, Ban Na is the Thai Deang (Thai red) tribes who has a simple life, see the daily life of local people, lifestyle, learn culture …
Back to Muang Ngoi, free time to rest and admire the beauty of the karst landscape reminiscent of the Halong Bai land.

DAY 15: MUANG NGOI – TAD MORK – NONG KHIAW (B/L/-)

After a local breakfast, time to explore the village. We then take the cruise downstream to the nearby village. Here we take some time to look around and if during a weekday pay the local school a visit to see the charming children as they take part in their classes.
After this we continue onwards to Tad Mork which is located close to the ethnic Khmu village of Ban Sop Kong, an hour trek from the river. At the waterfall we shall have time to swim and enjoy a picnic lunch.
In the afternoon, we continue the cruise to Ban Sopvan, which is home to the Tai Lue people. The village is located right next to the river, opposite the village on the river bank is a farm which is home to many different types of animal including pigs, chickens, ducks, and buffalo. We pay them a visit so it is worthwhile bringing some food along if you would like to feed them and surely very appreciated by both the animals and the villagers.
The last part of today cruise is 30 minutes cruise down to Nong Khiaw. We arrive in Nong Khiaw by around 5:00pm just in time before darkness descends.

DAY 16: NONG KHIAW – 100 WATERFALLS (B/L/-)

Start this day of adventure with a peaceful boat ride on the Nam Ou River where you will be able to explore a small Lao village along the riverside. Learn about the villagers and their way of life along this Northern Laos River before beginning the ‘100 Waterfalls Adventure Trail‘!
Walking through small streams and rice paddies, you will arrive at the bottom of the 100 Waterfalls which were only first explored in October 2008! For the next few hours you will see only water and jungle and hear the constant sound of clear waterfall cascades. The pools around you are very inviting for a refreshing splash.
Your guide will lead you through the cascades and prepare a local style lunch that you can enjoy on the falls surrounded by amazingly green nature. A small village trail on the top of the ‘100 Waterfalls’ will lead us on our hike back down into the valley, offering wide views over the expansive Nam Ou valley.
Once back in the village we will have some more time to experience the daily life of the Nam Ou riverside village before heading back to Nong Khiaw (Nong Khiau) by boat.

DAY 17: NONG KHIAW – MUANG HIAM (B/-/-)

Today, we will drive through the most rural and least developed part of Laos via Vieng Kham to Muang Hiam. These back roads are a perfect way to venture off the beaten track and explore the real Laos. We see very few other travelers, mostly rural dwellers who are just as interested in finding out about our lives as we are of theirs.
The drive can be challenging on some parts of our journey due to poor road conditions; however the verdant and rugged mountain scenery combined with the colorful local population makes for a memorable experience.
Arriving in Muang Hiam, we will check in the simple guesthouse to take some rest before taking a walk explore this small village. If time permits, we can visit the nearby hot spring, which is very popular among local people. If you wish, you can take a dip to refresh like the locals.

DAY 18: MUANG HIAM – TREKKING NAM ET PHOU LOUEY (B/L/D)

Morning: The National Park’s English-speaking guide and driver will meet clients at around 8:00am at the guesthouse in Muang Hiam.
First, visit the National Park’s headquarters and Visitor Center in Muang Hiam. The guide will share a presentation of the Nam Et-Phou Louey National Park and introduce the on-the-ground efforts in protecting wildlife.
After around 1.5-hour drive along curvy roads through mountainous landscape and villages surrounding the National Park, you will arrive at Ban Nam Soy village.
From Ban Nam Soy, we will start walking along a 5 km trail overlooking agricultural fields to Ban Navene, a remote Khmu village. A village tok tok (a hand tractor used for plowing rice paddies and convertible to a transportation vehicle) might join us and give us a lift (depending on the availability). Once in Ban Navane, meet with the village ecotourism team and guide. Enjoy late lunch in Ban Navene, hosted by the village cooking group at the village visitor center.
Afternoon: After lunch, guides will show you around the village and you will be introduced to your homestay/dinner family. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring the village.
Evening-Night: You will spend the evening in the village and experience the tranquility of life in a remote, off-the-grid village with limited electricity. Dinner with the local family. Option: Bring pictures and maps from home and your travels to show to your homestay family.
Note Overnight: It’s possible to be a guest of a homestay family, or to enjoy more privacy and overnight in village visitor center. Please inform guide regarding your preferences.

DAY 19: TREKKING NAM ET PHOU LOUEY (B/L/D)

(10 km trek. 7 hours. Elev. Gain/Loss +850m/-275m. Avg. Slope +12%/-8%)
Morning: After an early breakfast and saying your goodbyes to your homestay family, we depart for the first of the two-day ascent to the peak of the Phou Louey Mountain. The first 5 km of the trail climbs up through a mosaic of shifting agricultural fields. Your guide will explain about local agriculture, which villagers depend on for both their food and income.
Afternoon: After approximately a 2-hour walk, the trail enters the National Park. Trek through the forest for around 2 hours passing by the former ranger substation until arriving at Tad Ang Waterfall, an amazing waterfall that has bowl-like jungle infinity pool. Enjoy swimming while the village cook will prepare a lunch.
After lunch, the trail continues a gradual ascent until finally reaching the first campsite where you will stop for the night, Houay Kaneng camp. The camp is located nearby a waterfall where you can relax and refresh. Walk silently to the waterfall as you might spot some animals if you are lucky.
Evening: Follow the guide to the nearby camera trap to change the memory card. Once back at the camp see the camera trap photos and enjoy a traditional Khmu dinner by campfire prepared by the village cooks.

DAY 20: TREKKING NAM ET PHOU LOUEY (B/L/D)

(12 km trek. 10+ hours. Elev. Gain/Loss +1270m/-1250m. Avg. Slope +18%/-17%)
Morning: Wake up with the first light and enjoy breakfast to the sounds of early morning bird calls. Please be prepared to wake up early and get prepared in a timely fashion as today is the challenge day! The final climb up to the Cloud Forest and Phou Louey Peak is a very steep 5-6 hour climb (average slope +18%), followed by a very steep 4-5 hour descent (average slope -17%). The relatively short 12 km trek of today can easily take 10 hours or more!
The Phou Louey summit is a Cloud Forest, and as the name states the peak is usually covered in clouds, however, if you are lucky with good weather conditions and clear sky, you may see a breathtaking view of thick, old growth forest covering “Forever Mountain” for as far as the eye can see. Please do not pick any plants from the Phou Louey Peak area and please stay on the trail to reduce the footprints on this rare plant community.
Afternoon: After 6.5km climb (5-6 hours), enjoy lunch nearby the summit. At the summit additional camera trap will be opened to change memory cards. Phou Louey is known for its abundance of wildlife, and so the chance to see some great camera trap photos of different species is quite high. Together with the guide view the wildlife camera trap images.
After enjoying the wonders of the cloud forest, the trail descends down to Tad Loy camp, which is 5.5km (4-5 hours) from the top. Arrival to the camp in late afternoon. Enjoy free time to relax and bath in the nearby river.
Evening – Dinner: Enjoy a traditional Khmu dinner prepared by the village cook and porters. Enjoy the dinner at the campfire and the wild outback of Nam Et-Phou Louey. Your guides may tell you some Khmu folktales and stories about dragons, wildlife and ghosts.

DAY 21: TREKKING NAM ET PHOU LOUEY (B/L/D)

(12 km trek. 7 hours. Elev. Gain/Loss +895m/-660m. Avg. Slope +11%/-11%)
Morning: Wake up early and before breakfast walk up to a nearby mountain to check for wildlife photos on camera traps set there, bird watch, and possibly have the opportunity to hear the calls of the rare Northern White-Cheeked Gibbons.
After returning back to the campsite, enjoy breakfast. Today you will trek from the foothills of Phou Louey Mountain across the rugged and mountainous landscape to The Nests campsite located nearby the Poung Nied saltlick and the wildlife observation tower. The route traverses some beautiful forest and landscapes and trench remains from the war. The trek is approximately 12km and takes around 7hours with a steep ascent to the top of Phou Phamai Mountain Pass (Elev. 1’500m) followed by a gradual descent down to the camp.
The top of Phou Phamai Mountain Pass offers great view over the National Park. Enjoy a picnic lunch with a view.
Afternoon: You will arrive at The Nests camp in the mid-afternoon and will be shown to your accommodation – the hanging spherical “Nest”. Enjoy free time to relax, bath in the nearby river and enjoy the nature.
Dinner: Enjoy traditional Khmu dinner prepared by the village cooking group at around 6-7 PM. Dinner is eaten at the camp and is not allowed at the observation tower.
Evening: After dinner, you will receive a briefing about wildlife viewing at the Poung Nied salt lick – one of the largest salt licks in the National Park. The guides will inform tourists about the species of animals they may see and explain the rules and expectations for spotlighting.
It’s important to follow the introduced rules, such as: no talking, no eating at the salt lick observation tower. We will stay at the observation tower for a few hours (depending on your curiosity and patience) until no later than 11:30 pm.
The most common animals that you might spot include Sambar and barking deer (AKA muntjak) and various species of civets, although, if lucky, you may see also other protected animals such as bears, dhole, several species of wild cats and others.
Please wear warm clothes as it can be quite cold in the late evening/night time.

DAY 22: BACK TO MUANG HIAM (B/L/-)

(7.5 km forest trek + 5km local tractor. 4 hours trek + 1h tractor. Elev. Gain/Loss +420m/-460m. Avg. Slope +10%/-11%)
Morning: Early morning before breakfast, your guide will offer you two options:
First option, wake up at 6:00 AM walk back to the nearby salt lick to identify different wildlife tracks. Spend approximately an hour in the observation platform, as morning is a great time for bird watching. After, follow the guide to check the camera traps.
Second option, wake up early morning at 5:30 and walk for 20 minutes up the mountain to try your luck to listed to the calls of the critically endangered Northern White Checked Gibbons. Enjoy sunrise and birdwatching from a small viewpoint platform in a tree. At 6:30 follow the guide to check the camera traps.
Once back to the camp, enjoy breakfast and view wildlife camera trap photos taken by the camera trap during the previous night.
Twelve surrounding villages involved in this project receive monetary bonuses in the form of a village development fund based on the number and type of wildlife, and wildlife proof identified and viewed in the camera traps. (This fee is included in the tour price.)
Afternoon – Trek from The Nests to Ban Nam Poung Village. Your final day of trekking takes you along a 7.5 km forest path. Pass by the ranger substation and trek through thick jungle and mixed deciduous forest. The local guide will show you medicinal plants and spot animal tracks along the way.
Afternoon: The trek has a couple moderate ascents before descending into agriculture fields. At the edge of the forest and fields, enjoy a picnic lunch. From here a tok tok (a small tractor used for plowing rice paddies and convertible to a vehicle for transportation) will pick you up and take you through the village rice and corn fields for about 5km to Ban Nam Poung Village, an ethnic Khmu Village, situated on the edge of the national park boundary.
Once in the village your village guides will bid you goodbye and you will be transferred back to Muang Hiem by private truck or van. We will be back in Muang Hiem in afternoon

DAY 23: MUANG HIAM – NONG KHIAW (B/-/-)

The drive can be challenging on some parts of our journey due to poor road conditions; however, the verdant and rugged mountain scenery combined with the colorful local population makes for a memorable experience.

Pick-up: 08:30AM
After breakfast, we will transfer back to Luang Prabang.
After about 20-minute drive, we will take a right turn at Ban Bom onto the dirt road to Ban Na Yang (12km from the main road), which is the Thai Lue minority village. This is the very unique village with the traditional house and hand-weaving technique.
On arrival in Luang Prabang, free for the rest of the day.
